Job summary

Atlantic Constructors Inc. in Fredericksburg, VA is seeking a Commercial Construction Estimator to provide complete estimates for bids on HVAC/Sheet Metal and Plumbing projects.

You will review documents, solicit subcontractor quotes, and coordinate scope with in-house trades, using Autobid and other estimating software. Final compensation will be determined by experience. Travel may be required occasionally; strong math and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in commercial construction and related education/experience
• 3+ years estimating and pre-construction experience
• Proficient with computer/network based estimating software
• Solid understanding of P&ID drawings and flow diagrams
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Excel and Bluebeam; piping trades knowledge
• Experience budgeting, value management and schedules
• Able to meet critical deadlines and multi-task with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

• Review construction documents including bids and scope of work

• Assist procurement after project award and enter estimates into cost control
• Attend turnover/operations meetings and perform other duties

Summary/Objective:

The Commercial Construction Estimator will be responsible for providing complete estimates for bids on commercial construction projects for HVAC/Sheet Metal and Plumbing.

Essential Functions:

• Review all construction documents including Instructions To Bidders, Bid Forms and Scope of Work
• Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of work
• Distribute plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company ftp website and/or email
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits which may result in travel time on occasions
• Work as part of a team to coordinate scope of work between in-house trades (Sheet Metal, Fire Protection, Plumbing, Electrical, Steel, Millwrights) as required
• Take-off all equipment and material for trade specific scope of work utilizing the Trimble Autobid computerized estimating system.
• Enter all material, labor, sub pricing, vendor pricing, equipment rentals and other costs into bid summary a day or two before bid due date
• Review all take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed work
• Review in detail subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specifications
• Develop rough draft scope of work for proposals
• Upon project award, assist in procurement of subs, equipment and materials
• Enter estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnover/transition meetings with the operations team
• Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Required:

• 5+ years' experience in commercial construction and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 3+ years' Estimating and Pre-Construction experience
• Demonstrated knowledge and efficiency in computer/network based estimating software (i.e. Autobid, Quote Soft, TSI, Estimation, Fast Pipe or equivalent)
• A solid and thorough understanding of P&ID drawings and flow diagrams
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam software
• Knowledge of means and methods in construction for the piping trades including shop fabrication
• Experience in providing budgets, value management ideas, construction schedules, and manpower projections
• Must be able to meet critical deadlines
• Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
• Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
• Must be available to work assigned schedules

The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:

Work Environment:

• Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment
• Position will require visits to construction and industrial work sites

Physical Demands:

• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines. Site visits will require walking through existing buildings, industrial plants and/or on-going construction sites. This will involve stairs and at times ladders on multiple floors/levels.

Travel:

• May require infrequent travel

Preferred:

• AAS or BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other related discipline
• Experience with MS Project or other scheduling software
• Prior military experience
