YOUR SCHEDULE AS A CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR
The working hours for this position are from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. This schedule provides a consistent routine that allows you to focus on your responsibilities and projects.
Responsibilities
- Participate in planning meetings to determine the types of projects to bid on and establish effective bidding strategies.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site walk-throughs to gather essential project insights.
- Assess the decision of self-performing tasks versus subcontracting work and solicit quotations from suitable vendors and suppliers, including DBE/MBE/WBE/SBE subcontractors as required.
- Review plans, specifications, and Geotech reports; coordinate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates; analyze alternative construction methods.
- Participate in bid reviews with the Department Manager and, after award, review preliminary schedules and transfer pertinent estimate-related information to the project team.
- Identify high-risk activities and incorporate safety-related costs into estimates for a comprehensive approach.
What We Need From You
- 7+ years of construction experience, preferably in commercial, civil, and bridge construction
- 5+ years of experience estimating and bidding heavy civil work
- Familiarity with public bid processes
- Competency in using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software
- Ability to read and understand plans for grading and drainage, paving, foundations, and off-site roadways
- Skills in performing takeoffs and understanding heavy equipment performance specifications
- Decision-making skills and the ability to work in a high-production environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong time management abilities
- Attention to detail with the capacity to recognize discrepancies
- Planning and negotiation skills
- Must live within 1 hour of the job location
A valid driver's license and experience with B2W software, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), and Trimble Business Center are a plus.
