Job Description:
As a Construction Equipment Operator/Laborer, you will be responsible for operating heavy machinery and equipment to prepare and construct the base layer for synthetic turf installations. This includes grading, leveling, and compacting subbase materials to ensure proper drainage and a smooth foundation for the turf. You will work closely with the project team to ensure the project is completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy machinery including excavators, skid steers, bulldozers, and rollers to prepare base layers for synthetic turf installation.
- Grade and level the ground, ensuring proper slope and drainage for turf installation.
- Load, unload, and transport materials to the job site.
- Follow project plans and specifications to ensure accurate base construction.
- Set up and maintain work areas, ensuring a clean and safe environment at all times.
- Operate basic hand tools, power tools, and light machinery (such as small rollers or compaction equipment).
- Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Work closely with foreman and project managers to meet project deadlines.
- Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to all safety regulations and practices.
- Help with site preparation by removing debris, rocks, and other obstacles that could affect the turf installation process.
- Work closely with the team to ensure that all work is completed on time and according to project specifications.
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform general labor tasks as directed by the site supervisor or foreman.
- Assist with other construction tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Construction Equipment Operator, specifically with grading and base preparation.
- Previous construction labor experience, preferably in turf or landscape installation, grading, or base preparation.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate construction equipment safely.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Knowledge of construction safety practices and equipment operation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project specifications.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work in various outdoor weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent ; certification in heavy equipment operation a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Must be comfortable working in a physically demanding environment.
