Job summary

Virginia Paving Company is seeking an Engineering Intern to support both office and field activities on asphalt and civil projects in the Norfolk area. The role will assist in coordinating engineering and construction tasks, perform quality control tests on aggregates, asphalt, and concrete, and help track data for project requirements.

The intern will work with the Quality Control team to monitor product quality, maintain test records, and participate in site visits and safety meetings while

Qualifications

• Basic engineering knowledge in civil engineering.
• Proficient PC skills.
• Familiarity with construction industry practices.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.

Responsibilities

• Archive and record all correspondence as directed.
• Inspect, sample and test aggregates, asphalt, concrete or other materials for quality control.
• Sample and test mixtures for compliance with contract specifications and quality control tolerance.
• Monitor and test process functions and materials daily to meet agency or customer requirements.
• Prepare and record accurate information; maintain test results database.
• Ensure safety & environmental codes and practices are adhered to at all times.
• Site visits and investigations as needed.
• Participation in weekly and monthly safety meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
