Responsibilities

Brief Description

SABG is hiring a Construction Control Inspector to support Engineering Support Services for the 50th Civil Engineer Squadron (50 CES) at Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB), Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Travel:

Minimal to none. This position is performed on-site at Schriever Space Force Base.

JOB TITLE:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as a technical consultant to the contracting office and engineering flight, providing construction expertise to support planning, design interpretation, and resolution of field issues on assigned projects.
• Perform inspection and surveillance of complex construction projects to confirm contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, and contract requirements, including monitoring construction schedules and sequencing and verifying the acceptability of materials and workmanship.
• Review plans and specifications against actual field conditions and safety requirements, recommending changes when necessary and independently identifying and documenting problems and conflicts regarding interpretation of plans and specifications.
• Inspect materials and equipment delivered and installed on-site, obtain samples for testing when required, and reject or document non-compliant items in accordance with contract requirements and Government direction.
• Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including daily inspection logs, safety observations, formal inspection reports, non-conformance documentation, and records of discussions, decisions, and field changes.
• Review and provide recommendations on contractor submittals and progress schedules weekly.
• Conduct on-site inspections and provide a daily report of observations during active construction, in accordance with the contractor's submitted project schedule.
• Prepare and submit a weekly summary inspection report.
• Review and recommend approval or disapproval of contractor payment requests based on progress weekly.
• Document and report any safety violations or concerns immediately upon observation.
• Attend and provide input at pre-construction, progress, and other project-related meetings as necessary per the project schedule.

SUPERVISION:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education And Experience

• A degree in construction management or construction technology and at least 3 years of extensive construction and/or contract-related experience.
• Knowledge of construction inspection practices and procedures for building materials, workmanship, utilities, and system installations.
• Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, and structural aspects of major construction projects.
• Proficiency in construction industry inspection and safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural plans and specifications.
• Working knowledge of construction trades and applied mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Computer Skills

• Skills in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment.
• Must have proficiency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, and database (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Proficiency with construction documentation and inspection tracking software.

Ability to apply applied mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, to construction measurement, quantity verification, and inspection situations.

Job duties are performed primarily on active construction sites on a military installation, with additional time in an office environment for documentation and reporting. On construction sites, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, elevated noise levels, dust, and varying outdoor weather conditions, and must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required (e.g., hard hat, safety vest, safety footwear). The noise level on active construction sites is usually moderate to high.
