Job summary

ARCO is seeking an experienced Attorney to join our team as Legal Counsel (Claims) in Downers Grove, IL. You will analyze and help resolve pre-litigation disputes, oversee litigated and arbitrated claims, and partner with senior attorneys and business leaders on claims handling and risk management.

Approximately 10–15% of the role involves transactional work negotiating owner and subcontractor agreements. You will collaborate with a national legal team, implement best practices, and stay ahead

Qualifications

• Licensed attorney with 5+ years of litigation experience.
• Experience in a construction organization or large law firm, with familiarity with owner/subcontractor contracts and mechanics’ lien processes.
• First- and second-chair trial/arbitration experience preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication, strategic/business acumen, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Flexible with effective and timely communication.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the legal team across U.S. to address pre-claim disputes and manage litigated/arbitrated claims.
• Partner with senior attorneys, project managers, and business leaders to resolve claims.
• Implement enterprise-wide claims management and litigation best practices.
• Collaborate with Safety, HR, and Finance to identify risks and mitigation strategies.
• Manage outside counsel and insurance-industry partnerships.
• Present substantive reports on claims-related data.
• Stay informed of new laws and trends affecting the enterprise.
• Handle 10–15% transactional work negotiating owner and subcontractor agreements.
