Job summary

ARCO seeks a service-oriented Attorney to join our Downers Grove, IL office as Legal Counsel (Claims). The role analyzes pre-litigation disputes, oversees litigated and arbitrated claims, and partners with senior attorneys on risk management strategies.

Expect 10–15% transactional work, including negotiating owner and subcontractor agreements. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of litigation, construction-law exposure, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Licensed attorney with 5+ years of litigation experience.
• Experience in a construction organization or a large law firm preferred, including familiarity with owner contracts and mechanic’s liens.
• First- and second-chair trial/arbitration experience preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication, strategic and business acumen, and conflict resolution skills.
• Flexibility with effective and timely communication.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and help resolve pre-litigation disputes and oversee litigated and arbitrated claims.
• Partner with senior attorneys and business leaders on claims handling and risk management strategies.
• Handle 10–15% transactional work, negotiating owner and subcontractor agreements.
• Collaborate with legal team across offices to address pre-claim disputes and manage claims.
• Manage outside counsel and interact with insurance partners.
• Present reports on claims-related data and stay updated on laws and trends affecting the enterprise.
