Job summary

Old Republic Professional (ORPRO) is seeking a mid-level Claims Counsel in Chicago to handle low to high severity files from notice to resolution under supervision. This role emphasizes strategic claim management, negotiations, and collaboration with supervisors.

The ideal candidate holds an active bar license, 3+ years in insurance claims, and private practice experience preferred, with willingness to travel for mediations and meetings.

Qualifications

• Active license to practice law in good standing.
• Experienced Professional Management Liability handler.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant insurance, claims-related experience.
• Private practice litigation experience preferred.
• Willingness to travel for mediations and client meetings.
• Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

Responsibilities

• Manage and document activity for assigned claims, including coverage evaluation, investigation, liability assessment, and exposure analysis under supervision.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of Old Republic policy forms, industry trends, and issues affecting specific lines of insurance.
• Identify, evaluate, and address coverage issues, escalating complex matters when appropriate.
• Draft coverage correspondence, claim reports, and other claim-related communications.
• Communicate claim activity and recommendations with insureds, brokers, underwriters, senior claims management, and other stakeholders.
• Develop action plans to achieve timely and appropriate claim resolution while maintaining professional relationships.
• Negotiate, settle, and resolve claims with oversight.
• Establish, review, and manage claim reserves throughout the life of the claim.
• Assign, coordinate, and oversee outside counsel and vendors, including review of invoices for compliance.
• Contribute to favorable claim outcomes through collaboration with supervisors and claims counsel.
