Job summary

Chaparral Company is seeking a seasoned Accounts Payable Manager in Texas to lead and optimize the AP function for our construction projects. You will supervise staff, ensure accurate coding and timely payments, and coordinate with purchasing and project teams to resolve discrepancies.

The role requires 5+ years in AP with 2+ years in supervision, strong Excel skills, and experience with job cost accounting. Construction experience and Vista/Viewpoint familiarity are a plus.

Qualifications

• Five+ years progressive AP experience including 2+ years supervising an AP team.
• Construction experience preferred.
• Familiarity with job cost accounting, POs, subcontractor payments, retainage.
• Construction accounting systems experience preferred; Vista/Viewpoint a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to coach employees and collaborate across departments.
• Sound judgment handling confidential financial information.

Responsibilities

• Manage full AP cycle: receipt, verification, coding, approval, processing, and payment.
• Supervise, train, and develop AP staff; set priorities for accuracy and productivity.
• Ensure invoices are coded to correct company, branch, job, cost code, and GL account.
• Verify invoices against POs, receiving docs, and subcontracts.
• Coordinate with Purchasing, PMs, and branches to clear discrepancies.
• Review payment runs and schedule payments per vendor terms and cash needs.
• Oversee vendor onboarding and banking changes; collect W-9s.
• Maintain separation of duties for vendor setup, processing, approval, and release.
• Monitor AP aging, reconcile statements, and prevent duplicate payments.
• Ensure subcontractor docs, lien waivers, retainage conditions prior to payment.
• Support month-end/year-end close with accruals and AP reconciliations.
• Support 1099 reporting and applicable tax reviews.
• Maintain data accuracy in Vista and AP systems; document procedures.
• Track outstanding invoices and escalate delays; identify process gaps for improvement.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
