Job summary

Hourigan is a fully integrated construction management and development firm seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our Virginia Beach or Richmond office. The role reports to the Accounting Manager and centers on handling AP/AR, subcontract payments, and related accounting tasks within a construction context.

You will maintain accuracy across ledgers, support monthly reconciliations, and contribute to year-end processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or finance and 2-5 years of experience.
• Working knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and practices.
• Proficiency with accounting software and MS Office applications.
• Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Experience with construction industry software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Process monthly subcontractor payment applications and disburse payments.
• Process subcontract agreements and change order management.
• Ensure vendors and subcontractors are compliant with required documentation.
• Process and post cash receipts daily.
• Process weekly online payments.
• Perform monthly vendor account statement reconciliations.
• Perform monthly bank statement reconciliations and resolve stale dated checks.
• Upload employee expense reports to the general ledger.
• Reconcile intercompany accounts payable and accounts receivable activity and investigate variances.
• Prepare and record monthly depreciation and prepaid expense journal entries.
• Facilitate weekly timecard submission and approval for all employees.
• Record timecard and job cost reclasses as needed.
• Assist with annual 1099 processing and the year-end financial audit.
• Participate in the Hourigan Safety and Health Management System (SHMS)...
• Participate in cross-training across the Accounting department to build proficiency.
• Perform other duties as needed by department and management.
• Some periodic travel may be required
