Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking an experienced Construction Project Accountant / Billing Specialist to support accounting and billing for active construction projects. You will collaborate with Controllers, Project Managers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure accurate billing, timely payments, and proper job costing.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting, billing, or project accounting experience, preferably within construction or general contracting.
• Experience with construction AP/AR, project billing, job costing, or subcontractor accounting.
• Familiarity with AIA billing/G702/G703 strongly preferred.
• Experience with lien releases, pay applications, change orders, COIs, or other construction compliance documentation is highly desirable.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort learning accounting/ERP systems.
• Experience with construction accounting platforms such as Deltek, GCPAY, Procore, Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar systems is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Comfortable communicating directly with Project Managers, subcontractors, vendors, and accounting leadership.
• Able to work independently and research and resolve billing discrepancies.

Responsibilities

• Manage construction-related accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Prepare, review, and process project and progress billings.
• Process subcontractor/vendor invoices and ensure proper job and cost-code allocation.
• Assist with or prepare AIA billing, including G702/G703 applications.
• Work with Project Managers to review project billing, costs, and percentage of completion.
• Track and obtain conditional and unconditional lien releases/waivers.
• Review supporting documentation before subcontractor payments are released.
• Maintain subcontractor and vendor compliance documentation, including COIs.
• Track project contracts, change orders, commitments, and related documentation.
• Assist with preliminary notices, joint checks, and subcontractor compliance as applicable.
• Reconcile project costs, research discrepancies, and maintain accurate accounting records.
• Support project draws, closeout documentation, reporting, and audits.
• Communicate with subcontractors, vendors, Project Managers, and accounting leadership regarding billing and payment issues

Construction Project Accountant / Billing Specialist

Location: San Fernando Valley, CA

Schedule: On-site

Compensation range: 70,000-80,000 DOE

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Accountant / Billing Specialist to support accounting and billing activities for active construction projects. This position will work closely with Controllers, Project Managers, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders to ensure accurate billing, timely payments, proper job costing, and complete project documentation.

The ideal candidate has hands‑on accounting experience within construction, general contracting, or a related project-based environment and is comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
