Job summary

Berklee College of Music seeks a capable Cabaret Ensemble Music Director to lead the musical direction for the Cabaret Ensemble. You will produce, music direct, and coach three productions per year for the Boston community, and accompany all performances and rehearsals.

Job description

Eligibility Criteria


  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.

  • Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled.

  • In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester.

  • This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.

  • Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the musical direction of Cabaret Ensemble.


Must help produce, music direct, and coach three productions (one each semester and one holiday show) to be performed throughout the Boston community.


In addition, this person must accompany all Cabaret performances and rehearsals.


Mission of Cabaret Ensemble: Through the Student Employment Program, students are to be compensated to perform a Cabaret style show at a variety of non‑profit institutions such as hospitals, assisted living centers, and schools, bringing the joy of performance to those who do not have regular access to the arts.


Music direct three cabaret shows to be performed in the Boston community.


Responsible for all musical arrangements..


Assist with marketing and recruitment of the ensemble.


In partnership with the director(s) and the Chief of Staff, audition and accompany performers.


Responsible for teaching music to all Cabaret performers.


Assist with oversight of weekly rehearsals of all Cabaret performers.


Accompany all Cabaret performances and rehearsals.


Represent the Conservatory at all performances in a responsible and mature manner.


Additional duties to be assigned.



Qualifications


  • Strong piano skills.

  • Music direction background required.

  • Experience with coaching and knowledge of both musical theater and popular song rep.

  • Strong leadership and management skills.

  • Comfortable working in a variety of non‑traditional spaces.

  • Strong belief in the mission of the program.
