Job summary

Vedder Price's Chicago office is seeking a Conflicts Analyst to manage conflicts checks, research related parties, and coordinate engagement letters and waivers as needed. The role requires attention to detail and familiarity with conflict databases and ABA Model Rules.

You will compile reports, communicate findings to attorneys, and support workflow improvements in the new business intake system. This daytime role may require after-hours work in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with conflict databases and research sources.
  • Knowledge of ABA Model Rules relevant to conflicts and intake.
  • Minimum two years researching legal matters and conflicts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily new business conflicts checks and manage exposure to lateral hire conflicts.
  • Enter and analyze conflicts data in the firm systems.
  • Prepare reports and summarize conflict results with supervisors.
  • Coordinate waivers, engagement letters, and ethical walls as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries from attorneys and staff regarding intake and conflicts.
  • Support workflow improvements in new business and conflicts systems.

Job description

Overview

Vedder's Chicago Office is seeking a Conflicts Analyst. The working hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Conflicts Analyst is responsible for the conflicts checking process, including understanding conflict databases, producing conflicts reports, processing and analyzing new client matters and potential conflicts, documenting conflict scenarios, proposing resolutions, and coordinating documentation for resolution (including procuring engagement and waiver letters as needed). Candidates should have knowledge of the American Bar Association Model Rules of Professional Conduct.

As the Conflicts Analyst, your duties will include but not be limited to:
  • Responsible for daily new business conflicts checks with exposure to lateral hire conflicts as needed
  • Data entry, search, and analysis of conflicts data into the Firm\'s conflicts and new business intake system
  • Understand the business intake and conflicts search process in accordance with Firm policies and procedures
  • Conduct exhaustive research via internal and external sources on related parties, affiliates, lateral hire candidates, major organizational relationships, and investments by Firm attorneys; verify searches are comprehensive and adhere to standards
  • Prepare and analyze reports and summarize conflict check results in collaboration with the Conflicts Supervisor and/or Senior Conflicts Manager
  • Articulate potential issues and follow up on conflict issues with attorneys and others
  • Maintain knowledge of technology relating to new business intake and conflicts; create workflow improvements in the system
  • Assign new matter numbers; ensure waivers and engagement letters are collected; erect ethical walls as necessary
  • Respond to inquiries from secretaries and attorneys relating to intake and conflicts
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by the Conflicts Supervisor or Senior Conflicts Manager
  • Work after hours or weekends, as needed

Qualifications & Required Experience:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in information management or legal studies (strongly preferred)
  • Minimum of two years\' experience in conducting legal research (preferred)
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services firm handling new business and/or conflicts of interest (strongly desired)
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines
Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, proficiency in the following software is required:

  • Familiarity with industry-leading NBI and Conflicts systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with new technology and system administration; experience with Intapp Open preferred
Compensation Range

$58,000/yr to $68,000/yr
