Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. is seeking a Train Conductor to safely move freight trains, build trains by coupling railcars, and deliver railcars to customers. You will be trained to troubleshoot issues, report incidents, and ensure safety procedures are followed.

No prior railroad experience is required; comprehensive on-the-job training is provided. This role requires 24/7 availability, regular 2–3 days away from home, and eventual union participation within 60 days after training.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, alignment of drawbars, hand brakes, and rides on railcars.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA safety regulations.
