Norfolk Southern Corp. is hiring a Train Conductor to safely and efficiently move freight trains. No prior railroad experience is required, as full training is provided, including on-the-job instruction and classroom work.

The role is seniority-based, with on-call availability 24/7 and potential to bid on regular assignments after gaining seniority. Expect 2–3 days away from home weekly and mandatory union participation after training.

Qualifications

• Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and follow safety procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Willingness to work on-call, 24/7 with short notice.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, drawbar alignment, and handheld brake tasks.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA and company safety rules.
• Communicate with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers to coordinate movements.
• Pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Be able to lift up to 85 lbs and meet physical requirements.
