Job summary

El Paso County in Colorado Springs is seeking a detail-oriented Clerk/Technician to support the Concealed Handgun Permit Program. You will schedule and process handgun applications, verify documentation, and assist with background checks in a busy office environment.

You will respond to public inquiries, coordinate with law enforcement and other agencies, and help train new CHP/Extra Duty team members. In-person work is required, with a Monday–Friday schedule and recall readiness as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess knowledge of law enforcement practices and criminal law, and familiarity with state statutes and federal firearms laws.
• Experience with office equipment (computers, multi-line phones, scanners, photocopiers) preferred.
• Strong grammar, spelling, and punctuation; excellent communication and public speaking abilities.
• Ability to type 40 WPM and enter data accurately; maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrates integrity, honesty, and trustworthy character; good judgment under pressure.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and maintain punctual attendance.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and process concealed handgun applications; verify documentation, photos, fingerprints, and run background checks.
• Respond to public inquiries by email, phone, and in person.
• Coordinate with CHP/Extra Duty Supervisor and volunteers; assist with training.
• Communicate with diverse stakeholders regarding statutes and program requirements.
• Process incoming mail and route to appropriate areas.
• Perform other duties as required.
