Job summary

City of Goldsboro is seeking an IT Technician to plan, install, and maintain PCs, laptops, and related software for city staff. You will train users and provide hardware and software support in both networked and standalone environments.

This role works independently with limited supervision, reporting major activities in regular meetings, troubleshooting issues, configuring devices, supporting VOIP and network hardware, and documenting tickets in the tracking system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a computing-related field and 3 years of tech support or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient with Windows OS and Microsoft Office; able to configure hardware, software, and networks.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software issues for City employees.
  • Configures computers, peripherals, user accounts, mobile devices, and installs software/updates.
  • Maintains VOIP system configuration and related devices.
  • Documents all tickets and maintains daily logs in the tracking system.
  • Sets up devices in meeting spaces and supports city events.

Hiring range is negotiable between $67,902.62 and $88,273.40 depending on a candidate's qualifications and experience

The purpose of this position is to performs technical work in the planning, coordination, installation, maintenance and operations of PCs and laptops. Responsible for the training and support of computers and associated peripheral equipment and software. Provides technical and application support to computer users in both network and independent environments.

This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Essential Functions
  • Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software issues for all City employees.
  • Configures a variety of computers, peripherals, user accounts, mobile devices, and installs software and updates as needed.
  • Assists with maintenance of VOIP system, including configuring users, phones, and call groups.
  • Maintains daily activity in ticket tracking system; providing detailed documentation for all tickets resolved.
  • Helps setup and configure a variety of technical devices in meeting spaces around the City.
  • Mounts outdoor wireless Access Points and Cameras.
  • Runs audio and visual equipment for biweekly City Council meetings and other special events.
  • Runs and splices fiber cabling.
  • Installs new network locations including cabling and server rack mounting.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Knowledge of hardware, software and network concepts.
  • Knowledge of the techniques used in installing hardware and software.
  • Understanding a variety of mobile devices including smart phones and tablets.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory.
  • Ability to work independently and to recognize, analyze, and solve complex problems as it relates to computers systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Products, including but not limited to Windows OS and Microsoft Office Professional.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or related discipline.
  • Three years of technology support or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Possession of an MTA or A+ Certification preferred.

  • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, dancing, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
