Job description

The Support Administrator oversees and manages PC hardware, desktop applications, and enterprise domain support operations. This role provides consistent practices across IT support processes, monitors and assists in hardware/software compliance, and collaborates closely with all IT teams. The Support Administrator serves as a liaison between frontline technical support and domain services to ensure stability, compliance, and efficient technology operations throughout the City. The Support Administrator also contributes to vendor management, purchasing documentation accuracy, and contract oversight. Budgets, reconciles, and improves processes to enhance the department’s operational efficiency and strategic resource utilization.

The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.

Performs support administration functions for PC hardware and applications and assists helpdesk personnel to use consistent practices and programs in the maintenance of the enterprise infrastructure. Works in conjunction with helpdesk personnel to organize, analyze, and install operating system patches, releases, upgrades, and fixes in test and production environments; troubleshoots, researches, diagnoses, and resolves hardware, software, and network connectivity problems; makes adjustments, installs fixes, and performs tuning to resolve problems and achieve optimal performance as deemed necessary by the network and system teams.

Works with all IT teams to develop, recommend, implement, and enforce security policies, remote access standards, and guidelines to meet City, legal, and regulatory requirements for users and computers in the domain.

Maintains software licensing compliance and utilization records; assists management in recommending, maintaining, or canceling maintenance contracts by reviewing contracts and vendor communications. Evaluates and recommends hardware and software for future compliance and growth of City departments as technology changes. Participates in grant and bid writing.

Creates documents, oversees procurement, and provides budget support and compliance verification to ensure that technology purchases, reporting, and departmental financial tracking remain accurate and aligned with City standards.

Works with IT teams to facilitate seamless deployment of desktop applications locally, through enterprise configuration, management services platforms, and systems infrastructure while taking into account issues that will be encountered as a result of multiple software versions, multiple platforms with differing software installers, impacts on security protocols, impacts on inter-operations with other applications, and other critical issues in a highly complex software/ infrastructure environment.

Provides technical assistance to applications development staff in providing system infrastructure information and determining access, setup, data location, and other requirements; provides technical assistance during the installation and testing of software; responds to problems and requests for assistance regarding customer access and use of applications and associated data.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or Accounting from an accredited college or university and five years of related experience in financial- or computer system-related support; or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this job.

A Class D driver's license and good driving record are required and must be maintained throughout employment.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

The supervisor provides administrative direction with assignments in terms of broadly defined missions or functions. The employee plans, designs, and carries out programs, projects, studies, or other work independently. If review is done, it concerns fulfillment of program objectives, effect of overall program, or contribution to the City as a whole.
