Computer Refurbishment & Audit Technician
About TMR-Services
At TMR-Services, we give technology a second life. We specialize in IT asset disposition, computer refurbishment, and preparing reliable equipment for its next user. Our production team combines technical expertise, careful testing, and secure handling practices to deliver quality products while reducing electronic waste.
We are looking for a detail-oriented Computer Refurbishment & Audit Technician who takes pride in diagnosing problems, completing quality repairs, and keeping accurate records. You will work with laptops, desktops, and other IT equipment throughout the production process—from receiving and initial audit to data sanitization, refurbishment, and final quality control.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit incoming equipment: Record serial numbers, asset tags, specifications, cosmetic condition, and functional issues. Identify missing components, hardware faults, and BIOS or management locks that require escalation.
- Protect customer data: Perform data sanitization using approved tools and company procedures. Verify results, maintain accurate records, and flag failed erasures or drives requiring further processing.
- Diagnose and repair: Troubleshoot hardware problems and replace or upgrade components, including SSDs, RAM, batteries, keyboards, screens, fans, and charging ports, as appropriate to your repair skills.
- Prepare operating systems: Install and configure licensed Windows operating systems, drivers, and updates. Work with macOS or other supported platforms as required.
- Test device functionality: Check displays, keyboards, touchpads, ports, cameras, microphones, speakers, wireless connectivity, charging, and battery health. Perform stress tests and document results.
- Refurbish and finish: Clean equipment, address cosmetic issues, and prepare devices to meet company grading and packaging standards.
- Maintain inventory accuracy: Update our ERP system with hardware configurations, parts used, test results, repair notes, and production status.
- Support production goals: Complete assigned work efficiently while maintaining consistent quality. Communicate recurring defects, parts shortages, and issues that delay production.
Required Qualifications
- Practical knowledge of laptop and desktop hardware, diagnostics, disassembly, and component replacement.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting Windows 11, drivers, and common hardware issues.
- Ability to follow documented procedures and handle equipment and customer data responsibly.
- Strong attention to detail when inspecting devices, recording specifications, and verifying completed work.
- Ability to organize multiple units and parts without mixing components or losing asset traceability.
- Dependability, clear communication, and the ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, with reasonable accommodation as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or vocational certificate in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field. Equivalent hands‑on experience is welcome.
- CompTIA A+ certification; additional relevant certifications are a plus.
- Experience refurbishing Dell, HP, and Lenovo business computers.
- Familiarity with secure data erasure tools, diagnostic software, imaging systems, and ERP or inventory platforms.
- Experience in IT asset disposition, electronics refurbishment, or a production environment.
- Familiarity with battery health testing, cosmetic grading, and final quality control.
What Success Looks Like
