Job summary

DEFTEC is seeking a CAD Technician to produce and maintain engineering drawings and mapping products using CAD and GIS tools in support of engineering, planning, and construction activities across SSFB and GSUs.

The role requires an associate degree or 2+ years CAD experience with strong Autodesk Civil 3D, Map 3D, AutoCAD, and Revit skills, plus solid drafting theory and data management capabilities.

Position Overview:

The CAD Technician serves as the installation's CAD specialist, producing and maintaining engineering drawings and mapping products using CAD and GIS tools in support of engineering, planning, and construction activities across SSFB and its Geographically Separated Units (GSUs). Using Autodesk Civil 3D and other Government-approved CADD software, this role updates and revises technical drawings based on new specifications, field changes, and redline markups, ensuring record drawings reflect current conditions and comply with AEC standards and the current DoD A/E/C CAD Standard-including proper layer naming, scale, symbology, and title block information. The Technician coordinates with other CAD staff to maintain accurate, current facility data within CAD and GIS databases for use across engineering, real property, and planning systems. Candidates must hold an associate's degree or postsecondary certificate in computer-aided design, engineering technology, or a related field, or have at least 2 years of CAD technician experience, along with strong proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, experience with related software such as Map 3D, AutoCAD, and Revit, and practical knowledge of drafting theories and principles sufficient to analyze and manipulate surveying, cartographic, architectural, and engineering data for interactive drafting and visualization products.

Job Responsibilities:

• Serves as a CAD specialist for technical engineering graphics, using Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to produce and maintain installation drawing and mapping products in support of engineering, planning, and construction activities.
• Will perform CAD tasks for SSFB base-wide requirements and assigned Geographically Separated Units (GSUs) using Autodesk Civil 3D and other Government-approved CADD software to update and revise existing technical drawings, plans, and blueprints based on new specifications, field changes, and redline markups from engineers, architects, and contractors, ensuring that record drawings accurately reflect current conditions.
• Applies a working knowledge of Architect, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) standards when developing and revising CAD deliverables, so that drawing content, structure, and presentation are consistent with industry-accepted and Government-specified practices.
• Reviews CAD files to confirm compliance with the current DoD A/E/C CAD Standard and any project-specific CAD standards specified by the Government. At a minimum, the contractor must verify and correct layer naming, scale, symbology, and title block information so that all submitted drawings fully conform to applicable standards before delivery to the Government.
• Coordinates with other CAD staff to maintain and update existing facility record drawings, recommending necessary modifications and ensuring that facility data within CAD and GIS databases remains accurate, complete, and current for use in engineering, real property, and planning systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Has either an associate's degree or postsecondary certificate in computer-aided design, engineering technology, or a closely related field; or at least 2 years of experience as a CAD technician
• Strong proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D
• Experience with related software such as Map 3D, AutoCAD, and Revit
• Comprehensive knowledge of organizing and managing diverse digital databases
• Practical knowledge of, and skill in applying, drafting theories, principles, practices, and applications sufficient to analyze and manipulate data from surveying, cartographic, architectural, and engineering sources in order to develop and implement interactive drafting services and data visualization products for the installation.
