Computational Designer - Structural

Responsibilities

Walter P Moore has an immediate opening for a Computational Designer. The role focuses on developing and applying advanced digital workflows and data-driven strategies to enhance project delivery. The Computational Designer collaborates across structural engineering teams on complex projects and reports to digital practice leaders to advance firmwide digital initiatives.

This position is based in our Dallas office, with occasional travel if located elsewhere. Candidates from other locations will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in developing and deploying digital workflows via code and visual scripting
• Contribute to BIM development and model-related deliverables
• Establish and maintain scripting and modeling standards within project teams
• Identify opportunities for technological improvements in project delivery
• Create visuals for client and team communication to facilitate better design decisions
• Maintain online documentation of digital practices across the firm
• Collaborate with project teams on digital implementation strategies, including analysis, design, documentation, fabrication, and construction models

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural Engineering
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a design role
• Understanding of BIM processes, parametric modeling, computational design, and interoperability
• Proficiency with Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, Revit; familiarity with Rhino.Inside, Tekla Structures, Adobe Creative Suite, Power BI, ETABS, or SAP2000 is preferred
• Experience with programming languages (Python, C#, JavaScript), Git, and collaborative coding is a plus
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to visualize data effectively
• Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Hybrid Firm Position: Walter P Moore offers flexible work arrangements combining in-office and remote work. Candidates should be able to commute or travel to the office as needed. A one-time $1,000 stipend and ongoing $50 monthly stipend are provided to support home office setup and expenses.
