Job summary

Compost Crew A Benefit Corporation in Maryland is hiring an Environmental Technician to join our composting team at the Maryland Outposts. The role involves operating farm equipment, monitoring pile temperatures and moisture, and processing food scraps into high-quality soil amendments.

This full-time position requires safety-minded applicants with English proficiency, ability to lift 55 lb, valid US driver’s license, and willingness to travel regionally.

Qualifications

• Proficient in English (reading/writing).
• Ability to lift up to 55 pounds.
• Willingness to learn operating farm equipment and machinery.
• DOT medical card and drug/alcohol testing acceptable (company pays).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform weekly composting operations following SOPs and CFOP.
• Set up and break down facilities; complete decontamination.
• Monitor and mix feedstocks with temperature, moisture, and density guidelines.
• Operate ASP and windrow turning processes; record metrics.
• Coordinate compost sifting, applications, and hauling as needed.
• Maintain feedstocks and learn equipment maintenance checks.
