Job summary

Northrop Grumman, located in San Diego, CA, seeks a Composites Manufacturing Engineer to support one or more spacecraft systems. The role focuses on developing manufacturing methods for composite materials, laying out equipment and workspace, and producing detailed instructions and BOMs for efficient production.

The position requires knowledge of lay-up, machining, assembly and inspection of composites, with strong GD&T reading and drawing skills and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering; 2+ years as Manufacturing Engineer (Level 2)
• Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering; 5+ years as Manufacturing Engineer (Level 3)
• Experience with lay-up, machining, assembly and inspection of composite flight materials and hardware.
• Ability to read, interpret and create engineering drawings with GD&T.
• Strong communication within teams and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes on the factory floor.
• Develops and improves manufacturing methods for composite space hardware.
• Designs workflow and layout for maximum efficiency.
• Authors detailed manufacturing work instructions and BOMs.
• Communicates with design staff to ensure efficient production methods.
• Partners with vendors to determine specifications and quality standards.
• Estimates production times and costs for proposals.
• Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements.
