Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Huntsville, AL, is seeking a Composite Technician A to support the fabrication of high-quality composite structures. You will work hands-on with specialized equipment, following detailed instructions for lay-up, curing, testing and final assembly under supervision.

Preferred candidates have a HS diploma with up to 3 years of related experience, and familiarity with safety practices, Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with 0 to 3 years of prior related experience.

Responsibilities

• Produce parts, components and final assemblies using composite fabrication, compression molding, metal fabrication, modification, checkout, re-work, quality testing, and assembly utilizing detailed work instructions, schematics, diagrams, layouts or manufacturing test development or diagnostic equipment.
• Prepare various components for lay-up, filament winding, cure and post cure using cured and uncured rubber materials and adhesives.
• Operation of machinery and shop equipment including filament winders, ovens, autoclaves, manual lathes, presses, furnaces, mixers, grinders, paint booths, fume hoods and automated welding equipment.
• Fabrication and assembly of piece parts into completed sub-assembly using assembly tools.
• Perform vacuum bagging and related processes for fabrication and curing composite parts.
• Complete structural bonding operations using film adhesives, core materials, and adhesives.
• Building of complex layups individually and in small groups.
• Insulation of mandrels and composite cases.
• Filament winding composite structures.
• Facilitate and conduct on-the-job training of technicians as required.
• Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify and/or upscale out of control processes and production escapes.
