Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Composite Manufacturing Technician to join our AMF North facility in Huntsville, AL. You will fabricate, lay up, cure and assemble composite rocket motor hardware following detailed work instructions and schematics.

The role operates on a 2nd shift schedule (4/10). Candidates must be able to obtain a US security clearance and work in a high-precision environment with strict safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; 0-3 years manufacturing experience.
• Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Produce parts and assemblies using composite fabrication, lay-up, cure and assembly per instructions and diagrams.
• Operate shop equipment such as ovens, autoclaves, lathes, mills, presses, grinders and related tooling.
• Perform vacuum bagging, bonding, insulation and post-cure processes as required.
• Troubleshoot processes, support maintenance, and participate in safety and 5S standards.

Job Description

L3Haris is seeking a Composite Manufacturing Technician to work at our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL, which is our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of small, medium, and large case composite rocket motor hardware.

Essential Functions

• Produce parts, components and final assemblies using composite fabrication, compression molding, metal fabrication, modification, checkout, re-work, quality testing, and assembly utilizing detailed work instructions, schematics, diagrams, layouts or manufacturing test development or diagnostic equipment.
• Prepare various components for lay-up, filament winding, cure and post cure using cured and uncured rubber materials and adhesives.
• Operation of various machinery and shop equipment which may include but not be limited to ovens, autoclaves, manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling centers, manual mills, boring mills, presses, furnaces, mixers, grinders, swages, paint booths, fume hoods and overhead cranes.
• Fabrication and assembly of piece parts into completed sub-assembly using assembly tools.
• Perform vacuum bagging and related processes for fabrication and curing composite parts.
• Complete structural bonding operations using film adhesives, core materials, and adhesives.
• Building of complex layups individually and in small groups.
• Build, clean, and properly store large tooling
• Insulation of mandrels and composite cases.
• Cast, cure and machining of sand mandrels.
• Facilitate and conduct OJT training of technicians as required.
• Works with management and supervision to meet critical deadlines.
• Produce development hardware to support research and development programs.
• Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify and/or elevate out of control processes and production escapes.
• Assist in the development of process improvement actions within the facility
• Coordinate with maintenance, supervision and/or engineers in the set-up and calibration of equipment.
• Participate in preventative maintenance activities.
• Clean machines, equipment, and work area according to Standard Operating Procedures
• Support safety initiatives and adhere to 5S+1 standards.
• Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with 0-3 years prior experience in Manufacturing.
