Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Lifecycle management including onboarding, library maintenance, and obsolescence review.
  • Evaluate designs for reliability, standards compliance, and mission usage.
  • Support failure analyses and risk assessments with cross-functional teams.
  • Interface with suppliers, supply chain, design, and manufacturing teams.
  • Assist with customer meetings and program milestones (CDR, PDR, MRR).
  • Identify innovative technologies and support new product development.
  • Assist with proposals and design improvements to win new business.

Job description

Quantum Systems Inc. is a global leader in aerial intelligence and autonomous, AI-powered aerial robotics. We design, develop, manufacture and deliver eVTOL Unmanned Aircraft Systems UAS and an ecosystem of related products and services. Our business directly addresses the Defense and Security markets in North America, Asia Pacific and Latin America. We currently have an opening for a Component Engineer. This position reports to the Hardware Engineering Manager.

The Component Engineer will focus on the selection, qualification, and lifecycle management of components used within our products and systems. This role will work closely with Business Development, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to ensure components meet technical, reliability, availability, and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in component engineering, evaluation, and qualifications, with knowledge of aerospace or defense industry requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Component lifecycle management including component onboarding (e.g. footprint / part number creation), library management, and obsolescence review.
  • Evaluate designs for component reliability, industry standards compliance, and mission usage
  • Support component failure analyses and risk assessments.
  • Interface with suppliers, supply chain, design engineers, production/manufacturing, and mission assurance/quality.
  • Supporting customer meetings, milestones (CDR, PDR, MRR …) and guiding the team through those events.
  • Actively seek out innovative technologies and support new product development to ensure continued industry leadership.
  • Support new business activity through proposal review and improvements on current designs.
Qualifications:
  • Engineering Degree in a related field, EE preferred, with post graduate work a plus.
  • Experience in component screening, testing, and qualifications required, with strong emphasis on space industry
  • Familiar with EEE component standards (MIL-PRF-38534, MIL-PRF-49464, MIL-STD-883, …)
  • Proficient with circuit design tools a plus
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Review component datasheets and evaluate specifications, performance, and suitability for design requirements.
  • Support hardware design teams with component selection, alternate part recommendations, and design reviews.
  • Maintain and manage approved component libraries, Approved Manufacturer Lists (AML), and Approved Vendor Lists (AVL).
  • Monitor component lifecycle, including End-of-Life (EOL), Not Recommended for New Design (NRND), and Product Change Notifications (PCN), and proactively identify replacement components.
  • Perform component qualification, validation, and reliability assessments.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to resolve technical issues, obtain samples, and review qualification documentation.
  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations related to component failures and field returns.
  • Ensure components comply with applicable environmental and regulatory standards such as RoHS and REACH.
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Engineering Change Notices (ECN) related to component updates.
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to identify alternate sources and improve component availability.
  • Contribute to BOM optimization initiatives to reduce product cost while maintaining quality and reliability.
  • Background Check/U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements.
