Siemens Energy in Charlotte, NC, seeks an engineering professional to join our fast-paced turbine design and development team. You will contribute to hot gas path component design, perform thermal analyses, and help improve our tools and workflows.

You will support engine testing and data analysis to validate designs. The role requires a mechanical/thermo-fluid engineering background, familiarity with FEA/CFD/CAD, and programming ability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering with a thermo-fluids focus.
  • Experience in turbo-machinery, fluid systems, or related applications.
  • Strong knowledge of heat transfer fundamentals.
  • 2+ years with FEA, CFD, and CAD.
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting (e.g., APDL, Python).
  • Comfortable in a global, fast-paced Integrated Product Team environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and innovative.
  • Authorized to work in the US without Siemens Energy sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to design of turbine hot gas path components, delivering thermal evaluations and designs aimed at high efficiency, life, and manufacturability.
  • Help advance tools landscape, heat transfer tools, workflows, and AI/ML opportunities.
  • Support engine and component testing, defining validation requirements and performing data analyses.

A Snapshot of Your Day

This position provides an exciting and challenging opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic engineering product development environment for industrial gas turbines for power generation. Each day involves working both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and team members on program development projects, component improvements, and technology enhancements according to priorities and assignments. Design and analysis efforts will rely heavily on collaboration, not only with immediate team members, but with global and cross-organizational resources. Continuous learning will take place, through execution of tasks and activities, application of discipline knowledge, implementation of innovative thinking and ideas, and through attendance of specific courses, both technical and non-technical. You will utilize and exercise cutting-edge design and analysis tools in these endeavors, while identifying areas and aspects for improvement. You will support your colleagues through sharing ideas, questions, and results, and communicate and present directly with internal customers, stakeholders, management, leadership councils and design boards, as required.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • You will contribute to design of turbine hot gas path components, providing critical thermal evaluations and designs achieving state-of-the-art performance in terms of efficiency, component life, robustness, and manufacturability.
  • You will contribute to the continuous improvement of the tools landscape, including heat transfer specific tools, tool chains, and automated workflows, through utilization of tools and data reduction activities, providing ideas for improvement in functionality, efficiency, analysis fidelity, including identification of AI/ML opportunities (with follow-on support).
  • You will contribute to vital engine and component testing, critical for validation of designs, analyses, and tools, by providing engine test and validation requirements, preparing test predictions and performing post-test data reduction and analyses.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering, with a focus thermo-fluids
  • Experience and familiarity in turbo-machinery, fluid systems, or similar applications
  • Strong knowledge of heat transfer discipline fundamentals
  • 2+ years experience with FEA, CFD, and CAD
  • Computational and programming skills proficiency (e.g. APDL, python) – or similar?
  • Comfortable in a global and dynamic, fast-paced Integrated Product Team environment
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, self-directed, and innovative
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for Siemens Energy sponsorship now or in the future.
