Job summary

SMG, Seltzer Management Group, Inc. is seeking a Compliance Specialist I to perform and document monthly management reviews and inspections for affordable housing properties in the North Florida region, based on Panama City Beach on-site.

The role requires weekly travel within Florida and thorough, report-driven work. The incumbent will review program documentation, coordinate with stakeholders, and produce detailed written reports within contractual deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience in the Affordable Housing Industry.
  • Willing to travel weekly throughout Florida with some overnight stays.
  • Attend annual SMG compliance meeting in home office (4 days).
  • Proficient in MS Office with in-depth Excel experience.
  • Highly organized with excellent oral and written skills.
  • Analytical and detail oriented with strong follow-through.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and annual onsite management reviews and physical inspections of Affordable Housing Properties, documenting findings in detailed professional reports and following through on all issues.
  • Conduct desk reviews or physical inspections as needed, documenting findings and resolving issues according to program requirements.
  • Proactively follow up on management reviews and inspections, tracking findings until complete resolution using internal reports.
  • Review monthly and annual program reports, Tenant Income Certifications, and Continued Program Compliance Certifications; maintain correspondence on outstanding issues.
  • Maintain detailed records of outstanding issues and track their resolution through effective correspondence.
  • Maintain and update all contractual reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and timely submissions.
  • Remain current on evolving housing industry compliance issues for programs such as Housing Credit, SAIL, HOME, NHTF, CDBG-DR, and state/county bonds.

Requirements

North Florida: This is an on-site position working within the SMG office. Candidates must be prepared for weekly travel primarily within N/NW Florida, including overnight stays.

About the role

The Compliance Specialist I is primarily responsible for scheduling, conducting, assisting, and following up on a minimum of 4 monthly management reviews and physical inspections, ensuring compliance to regulatory requirements for various affordable housing programs. This position requires a detailed and thorough review of regulatory agreements, property documentation, files and onsite inspections. Additionally, the role requires the ability to compile and produce a detailed written report within required contractual deadlines.

  • HOME (Home Investment Partnerships Program)
  • NHTF (National Housing Trust Fund)
  • CDBG-DR (Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery)
  • State and County Bonds
Candidate requirements
  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience in the Affordable Housing Industry.
  • Able to travel weekly throughout Florida with some overnight.
  • Attend annual SMG compliance meeting in home office (4 days).
  • Computer skills proficient in MS Office products with in depth experience in Excel.
  • Highly organized with excellent oral and written skills.
  • Must be analytical and detail oriented with superior follow-through skills.
  • HCCP certification or commit to earning the HCCP certification.
