Job summary

Jobtailor in Laurel, MT is seeking a motivated engineering student to join our pipeline and terminals team as an internship. You will help develop, maintain, and improve operating procedures, create P&IDs, and support design reviews with technical input.

You will analyze data, interpret drawings, and collaborate across operations, maintenance, and engineering to advance safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, while gaining hands-on experience in an industrial setting.

Qualifications

  • Currently a sophomore enrolled in a 4-year Engineering Program at a college/university
  • Available to work 40 hours per week
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Previous work experience in a petrochemical facility, refinery, pipeline or other industrial setting
  • Proficient with drafting and design software and able to interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Knowledge of industrial processes, safety management systems, environmental compliance, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience developing operating procedures, maintenance practices, or engineering documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently while contributing to cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve operating and maintenance procedures
  • Create and update Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and associated technical documents
  • Participate in project design reviews and provide technical input on process improvements
  • Identify and report safety, environmental, regulatory, and compliance concerns and potential corrective actions
  • Analyze operational, maintenance, and engineering data to develop actionable recommendations for leadership and stakeholders
  • Use drafting and design software to prepare, revise, and maintain engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate across the Pipeline and Terminals business unit to share technical concepts and best practices and support operational and engineering strategies
  • Work with line management, employees, union personnel, contractors, and professional staff to achieve business objectives and continuous improvement
  • Support compliance with company policies, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Facilitate communication between operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams
  • Participate in team meetings, audits, and field activities to promote safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
