Job summary

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s Minnesota Disability Law Center seeks a full-time legal advocate to conduct compliance reviews of representative payees for SSA. The role requires extensive travel across Minnesota, with the potential for remote or hybrid work in northern regions.

A valid driver’s license, dependable vehicle, and SSA background check are required. The Rep Payee Review Team protects SSA beneficiaries, ensuring proper handling of benefits and preventing misuse.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain Level V public trust clearance.
• Minimum 2 years investigative or related experience.
• HS diploma plus 3 years experience; AA may substitute.
• Knowledge of federal/state disability benefits and services.
• Strong written and verbal communication and organization.
• Travel throughout Minnesota required.
• Experience interviewing individuals with disabilities.
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site reviews and investigations as directed by SSA/MDLC, reviewing financial documents and interviewing beneficiaries and payees.
• Develop corrective action plans to ensure SSA compliance and improve financial management practices.
• Provide referrals to access advocacy and legal services resources.
• Prepare comprehensive reports detailing findings using SSA forms and SSA database submissions.
• Apply MDLC’s Racial Justice values in all work.
• Travel across Minnesota for reviews and outreach activities.
