Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking an experienced Complex Liability Adjuster to manage a high-volume caseload of CGL and BOP claims, including litigated files. You will oversee investigations through resolution, assess coverage, and work with defense counsel to craft litigation and settlement strategies.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years handling litigated claims, 10+ years in the insurance field, and a solid grasp of negotiation, coverage issues, and policy interpretation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years managing litigated and in-suit CGL and BOP claims.
• 10+ years in the insurance industry with hands-on CGL claims handling.
• Strong knowledge of litigation management, evaluation, and negotiation.
• Experience analyzing coverage issues and applying policy language to liability claims.
• Proven ability to partner effectively with defense counsel and manage claims throughout the litigation lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Complex Liability Adjuster to handle a caseload of approximately 115-130 complex Commercial General Liability (CGL) and Business Owners Policy (BOP) claims, including litigated and in-suit files. In this role, you'll handle claims from investigation through resolution, evaluate coverage and liability, and work closely with defense counsel to develop effective litigation and settlement strategies.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience managing litigated and in-suit CGL and BOP claims
• 10+ years of insurance industry experience, including hands‑on (CGL) claims handling
• Strong knowledge of litigation management, claim evaluation, and negotiation
• Experience analyzing coverage issues and applying policy language to liability claims
• Proven ability to partner effectively with defense counsel and manage claims throughout the litigation lifecycle
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple complex claims and competing priorities
• Experience using claims management systems and standard business applications
• JD preferred, or bachelor’s degree with significant experience handling litigated liability claims

• Licensing Requirement: Candidates must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses. The company will support the licensing process, including training and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements

Salary $80,000 - $120,000

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‐faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

This role may be based out of any of our office locations, including:

New York, NY; Parsippany, NJ; Conshohocken, PA; Wilkes‑Barre, PA; Alpharetta, GA; Rosemont, IL; Plano, TX; and Scottsdale, AZ.
