Job summary

The Nemours Foundation in Jacksonville, FL is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Complex Care team. The MA will coordinate patient flow, collect data, prepare exam rooms, and document histories in the medical record under provider direction.

Responsibilities include clinical duties to support outpatient visits, vaccines and specimen collection, and acting as liaison among care teams, with emphasis on patient and family communication and accuracy of documentation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Healthcare and Customer Service experience.
• Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association within three months of employment and maintain as required.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families at the clinical setting according to Nemours Standards of Behavior.
• Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
• Prepares exam rooms, clinic equipment and computer technology by maintaining inventory and supplies for the outpatient visit.
• Rooms patient ensuring appropriate documents are with the patient, including required diagnostic reports.
• Receive, unpack, store, inventory, transport non-controlled medications and clinic supplies
• Performs clinical duties to support the outpatient visit to include obtaining and documenting height, weight, head circumference and vital signs, and documenting reason for visit and initiates orders as appropriate.
• Assist with patient examination/treatment including point of care testing, vaccines, collecting routine laboratory specimens, operating required medical equipment, and supporting the flow of patient care.
• Act as a liaison between support services, other clinical divisions, and patient regarding care and wait times.
• Make confirmation calls to ensure visits are in “confirmed” status prior to visit or per Department protocol
