Job description

The Role

The Assistant Dance Coach supports the Head Dance Coach in the instruction, supervision, and development of Company dancers across all competitive levels. This role helps foster a positive, professional, and high-quality dance experience while contributing to a competitive program that emphasizes excellence in dance education and performance.

Working closely with the Head Dance Coach, the Assistant Dance Coach assists with rehearsals, competitions, communications, administrative functions, and dancer development while serving as a positive representative of the Multnomah Athletic Club and its Dance Program.

What You’ll Do

• Assist the Head Dance Coach with the supervision and instruction of Company dancers at all competitive levels.
• Follow rehearsal schedules established by the Head Dance Coach.
• Support and enforce Company expectations related to dress code, behavior, and professionalism.
• Attend Company competitions, performances, auditions, meetings, and events as assigned.
• Promote a positive, safe, and professional dance experience for dancers, members, parents, and staff.
• Assist with planning and organizing competitions, performances, and special events.
• Support administrative functions, including scheduling, TeamSnap communications, posting music and rehearsal materials, auditions, and parent communications.
• Ensure dancers representing the MAC follow the Athletic Code of Conduct and Company Dancer Agreement.
• Maintain regular communication through voicemail, text, email, and TeamSnap and respond in a timely manner.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe studio environment.
• Participate in department, club, and professional development training opportunities.
• Collaborate effectively with the Head Dance Coach and Dance Department staff to support program goals.
• Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience in a competitive, professional, or comparable dance coaching role.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and Contemporary dance techniques.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with staff, members, parents, and dancers.
• Ability to motivate and develop young dancers through a balance of discipline, encouragement, and sensitivity.
• Positive, enthusiastic, and professional approach to youth development and dance instruction.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional performance experience.
• Experience working with competitive dance programs and teams.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Strong judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members, parents, contractors, and staff.
• Proficiency using technology and communication platforms, including email, TeamSnap, and standard office software.
• Ability to safely operate studio and sport-related equipment.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
• Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and operating guidelines.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in dance studio, competition, performance, and event settings, both on-site and off-site.
• Regular collaboration with parents, dancers, coaches, and Dance Department staff is required.
• Independent work related to scheduling, communication, and planning is a regular component of the role.
• Ability to bend, twist, climb stairs, and lift up to 20 pounds on a regular basis.
• Schedule varies based on rehearsal, competition, performance, and program needs.
