Job summary

Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, OR is seeking a part-time Artistic Swimming Assistant Coach to lead development of young swimmers, design routines, and accompany athletes to competitions. You will run practices, mentor athletes, manage logistics, and collaborate with staff.

The role requires CPR/First Aid, USA Artistic Swimming membership, and a passion for coaching. This on-site position offers an opportunity to impact the next generation of artistic swimmers within a vibrant club

Qualifications

  • CPR and First Aid certifications and CCP Level 1 or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Health & Safety: concussion management training within 60 days.
  • USA Artistic Swimming membership in good standing.
  • Competitive artistic (synchronized) swimming experience.
  • Familiarity with TeamSnap, ISS, and common office software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to motivate athletes of varying skill levels.
  • Ability to collaborate with coaching staff and club members.
  • Physical capability to coach, swim, stand, and demonstrate techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop swimmers; monitor training sessions and progress.
  • Choreograph routines and edit music for performances.
  • Coordinate and accompany teams to competitions and manage logistics.
  • Lead and support classes, clinics, and camps; organize entries and results.
  • Manage scheduling and squad communication using ISS/TeamSnap.
  • Engage with members and promote participation in programs.
  • Handle injuries and safety incidents per protocols.
  • Submit expense reports and assist with equipment purchasing.
  • Attend staff meetings and help develop the annual competition schedule.

The Role

We're looking for a part-time enthusiasticArtistic Swimming Assistant Coachto join our team and lead athletes to success both in and out of the pool. You'll play a key role in shaping the next generation of artistic swimmers. You'll lead practices, choreograph routines, and travel with athletes to competitions, fostering a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and personal growth. This position is ideal for a motivated, creative, and organized professional with a strong background in synchronized swimming and a commitment to athlete development.

This is a full-time, fully on-site position at our club in Portland, OR.

What You'll Do

  • Provide Leadership & Develop Athletes:Coach, inspire, and encourage swimmers toward competitive excellence. Lead and monitor in-water and land-based training sessions for assigned squads. Foster a positive, disciplined, and sportsmanlike environment for athletes. Maintain ongoing communication with swimmers, parents, and staff via email, phone, and meetings. Assist in tracking individual swimmer goals and monitoring progress.
  • Develop Choreography & Music Editing:Creatively choreograph routines as assigned by the Head Artistic Swimming Coach. Edit music tracks for routines and performances.
  • Competition Travel:Coordinate and accompany teams to competitions, managing logistics and athlete engagement.
  • Event Support:Lead and support artistic swimming classes, clinics, and camps. Organize meet entries, attendance, and results; coordinate MAC-hosted competitions.
  • System Management:Use ISS for coach cards and TeamSnap for scheduling and squad communication.
  • Engage with Members:Promote participation in aquatics department programs and events.
  • Emergency Response:Handle injuries, illnesses, and emergencies according to safety protocols.
  • Budget Compliance:Submit accurate expense reports and assist with equipment purchasing.
  • Team Collaboration:Attend staff meetings and assist in developing the annual competition schedule.

What You'll Bring

  • Certification Readiness:CPR and First Aid certifications, and CCP Level 1 or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:Completion of concussion management training within 60 days.
  • USAAS Membership:Coaching member in good standing with USA Artistic Swimming.
  • Competitive Experience:Background in competitive artistic (synchronized) swimming.
  • Technical Proficiency:Familiarity with platforms like TeamSnap, ISS, and common office software.
  • Communication Skills:Excellent verbal and written skills to build strong relationships with swimmers and families.
  • Motivational Drive:Proven ability to motivate and encourage athletes of varying skill levels.
