Job summary

Animal Care Hospital in Oakland, TN is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and assist in surgeries. The ideal candidate has prior Veterinary Assistant experience and is comfortable with routine in-house lab work and client education.

Anticipated schedule is 4 ten-hour shifts with rotating kennel weekends. We value patience, compassion, teamwork, and clear communication as key traits for delivering compassionate

Qualifications

• Experience as Veterinary Assistant preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including PPE.
• Basic math for calculating medication dosages.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in medical care and surgery as needed.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights; educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vitals during procedures.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-house lab work.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restraint during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and maintain equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all client interactions.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team regarding patient plans and concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.
