Job summary

U.S.VETS in Houston is seeking a Veteran Service Assistant to support daily basic residential services for veterans. The role involves assisting with shelter operations, coordinating with clinical staff, moving veterans in and out, and maintaining a sober, therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities include conducting safety rounds, handling client communications, performing bed checks and incident reporting, and supporting administrative duties to ensure smooth operation and compliance with site

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience with programs and homeless populations.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with residential staff.
• Must promote client-centered philosophy and skilled in creating/maintaining a sober environment.
• Must be energetic, dedicated to mission and flexible.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Valid driver’s license; if driving company vehicles, meet insurance requirements and complete driver training.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the delivery of basic services (shelter, food, hygiene, etc.) to veterans at the facility.
• Maintains a harmonious atmosphere by communicating with clinical staff and maintaining a therapeutic community environment.
• Assists in handling client mail and assists with move-in/move-out from the facility.
• De-escalates and reports incidents to the Supervisor.
• Addresses client issues promptly to ensure uninterrupted services.
• Conducts safety rounds at internal and external locations of facilities.
• Assists with supply inventory and storage, and upkeep of the facility.
• Supports readiness for inspections and participates in safety and emergency procedures.
• Performs routine admin duties including bed checks, incident reports, and client logs.
• Facilitates daily living activities and adheres to site work order procedures.
