Job summary

Paradocs Animal Hospital in Locust Grove and the Fredericksburg, VA community is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians during exams, diagnostics, and treatments. You will help ensure compassionate care and serve as a connection between clinicians and clients.

Responsibilities include restraining animals, administering medications, collecting lab samples, entering treatment plans, and educating clients on vaccines and care plans.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer proficiency, including practice management software and Microsoft Office.
• Previous experience with animals preferred; veterinary or animal care background valued.
• Able to work safely around cleaning chemicals, anesthetic gases, radiation, zoonotic diseases, and animal bodily fluids.
• Maintains composure and professionalism in high-stress situations.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle animals up to 130 pounds.
• Professional, neat appearance.

Responsibilities

• Provides compassionate, professional care to patients and clients at all times.
• Communicates clearly with clients, doctors, and team members, including answering phones and routing inquiries.
• Handles sensitive client situations with empathy and discretion, escalating medical questions appropriately.
• Assists the veterinarian during exams, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures.
• Safely restrains animals using low-stress handling techniques.
• Administers medications, draws vaccines, collects lab samples, and performs basic lab tests as directed.
• Creates, reviews, and enters treatment plans accurately in the medical record system.
• Educates clients on vaccinations, medications, and treatment protocols.
• Accurately records patient information and maintains organized medical records.
• Enters charges accurately and assists with client check-out and payments.
• Ensures exam rooms and hospital spaces are clean, stocked, and maintained.
• Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and commitment to supporting patients and operations.
