Job summary

The Cook is responsible for preparing, working with and delivering food according to the nutritional needs of each resident, providing food and customer service to residents and guests, while maintaining high standards of quality, sanitation and safety. This role embodies New Day’s culture and food philosophy.

They will manage food budgets, follow approved menus, document substitutions, and ensure proper storage, temperatures and safe handling.

Qualifications

• Must have CBRF Dietary and ServSafe training.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and dietary orders.
• Willingness to operate kitchen equipment and maintain safety standards.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent New Day with professionalism and uphold its culture.
• Manage food and dietary supplies budgets and document expenses.
• Follow approved menus; document substitutions for special events or preferences.
• Create weekly shopping lists; inventory food and supplies weekly.
• Store and date all items; rotate stock and maintain safety standards.
• Work with approved vendors; minimize store trips to emergencies.
• Monitor meal service for resident satisfaction and collect feedback.
• Ensure meals look/apparently appetizing and served at correct temps.
• Check items daily; discard items past 3 days or not stored properly.
• Meet modified diet needs per physician orders (thickened liquids, pureed, etc.).
• Assist residents with eating as needed; provide courteous service.
• Keep kitchen clean and organized; complete cleaning tasks by end of shift.
• Document temperatures and maintain menu records.
• Learn community protocols and state regulations; execute duties accordingly.
• All other duties as assigned by Executive Director/House Manager.
