Job summary

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to support nursing staff and maintain a therapeutic milieu for adults and seniors with anxiety and mood disorders. The role involves delivering patient care within the BHT scope and ensuring safety under supervision.

The position emphasizes de-escalation, observation documentation, and collaboration with the care team. A high school diploma or CNA certification plus relevant experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred unless state requirements dictate otherwise.
• Current CNA certification or 6 months of bedside patient care experience preferred.
• Must read, write and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations.
• Must be in good physical and mental health with integrity.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce unit rules and safety.
• Apply de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
• Inventory patient belongings and secure contraband; perform safety checks.
• Follow infection control policies and attend required trainings.
• Perform patient care tasks under supervision: vitals, ADL, nutrition monitoring, and report findings to the nurse.
• Assist patients with meals, laundry, bathroom functions and mobility needs.
• Document observations and communicate outcomes to nursing staff.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.
