Job summary

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Baton Rouge seeks a compassionate Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to assist nursing staff and support a therapeutic milieu for adults and seniors with anxiety, depression and related conditions. You will perform routine patient care tasks, monitor safety, and help with activities of daily living under licensed supervision.

Must have a high school diploma or GED; CNA certification or 6 months of bedside care is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written instruction.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must work well with diverse populations.
• Must successfully complete Basic Life Savings (BLS) course and Oceans approved behavioral de-escalation program.

Responsibilities

• Continually monitors and supports compliance within unit rules.
• Employ de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
• Inventory patient belongings and secure contraband; complete unit safety checks.
• Implements patient care activities under supervision: take vital signs, weights, ADL, nutritional monitoring, and report to nurse.
• Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and mobility needs.
• Document and communicate patient observations, outcomes, and care needs to nursing staff to ensure continuity of care.
