Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a skilled phlebotomist to collect quality specimens for laboratory testing and ensure proper handling and distribution. The role requires interacting with patients of all ages and collaborating with physicians, nurses, and hospital departments to maintain high service levels.

The successful candidate will have completed a formal phlebotomy program, possess strong interpersonal skills and be proficient with LIS/HIS systems while adhering to safety and confidentiality

Qualifications

• Requires completion of a formal phlebotomy program with classroom and on-the-job experience.
• Must demonstrate ability to collect quality specimens from patients of all ages and maintain specimen integrity.
• Knowledge of LIS/HIS systems and laboratory terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and other test procedures per protocol for patients of all ages.
• Provides excellent patient service during invasive procedures and communicates with patients, physicians, nurses and departments.
• Performs specimen handling to ensure high quality and timely distribution to departments; prepares esoteric specimens for shipment as needed.
• Follows registration, identification, safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies; adheres to CLIA, CAP and OSHA regulations.
• Uses LIS/HIS to schedule workloads, place orders, retrieve billing information and assist with patient registration.
