Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary collection (finger and heel sticks) per policy
• Ensures positive patient identification and proper labeling at bedside
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the laboratory
• Explains procedures to patients to provide reassurance
• Maintains and cleans phlebotomy equipment and workspace
• Documents patient and specimen information in the lab system
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and meets clinical needs
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues and recollects when necessary
• Collaborates with the care team to clarify orders and status
• Adheres to safety requirements and hospital procedures
