Job summary

Altru Health System in Grand Forks, ND is hiring a Phlebotomist to collect capillary and venipuncture blood specimens from patients of all ages and ensure specimen integrity through accurate labeling and patient identification. The role may include point-of-care testing and exceptional customer service.

You will perform specimen processing, communicate with the team to manage turnaround times, and help maintain quality control.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient identification and specimen labeling according to standard operating procedures.
• Understands the phlebotomy processes and techniques in order to obtain quality blood specimens to ensure that correct decisions are made regarding specimen collection.
• Performs, interprets and reports point-of-care testing (e.g. glucose) and quality control.
• Processes laboratory and patient reports according to standard operating procedure, e.g. printing, recording, distributing, faxing, filing, and retrieving.
• Recognizes problems, takes appropriate action, documents problems and corrective action, and follows protocol to notify the Supervisor of problems in a timely manner so as not to jeopardize patient care.
• Actively communicates throughout the shift and manages priority requests in a courteous and timely manner to ensure effective department workflow. Follows up with STAT, ASAP, and Pre-op draws to ensure turnaround times are met.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
