Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Formal phlebotomy program preferred.
• Previous hospital/draw station experience preferred.
• Licensure not required in NYS; certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients courteously, identify them using two identifiers, and verify identity.
• Collect specimens and volumes per test; select venipuncture site; follow PPE and safety precautions.
• Label specimens in the presence of the patient and process per requirements.
• Register patients or drop-off specimens; verify insurance and update records; scan documents; run ABNs when needed.
• Create electronic test orders; verify requisitions; follow up for missing or unclear information.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are up-to-date; document temperatures; maintain a clean, stocked area.
• Answer phones, document verbal orders, obtain written documentation, and fax results as requested.
• Manage any patient adverse reactions to phlebotomy.
• Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance.
