Job summary

SPCA of Wake County in Raleigh, NC seeks an Adoption Specialist to guide visitors through the adoption process, share behavioral and medical information, and coordinate pet meetings to support timely, positive outcomes.

You will provide excellent customer service in person, by phone, and by email, maintain accurate records in CRM and shelter systems, and work closely with Animal Care and other teams in a fast-paced, compassionate environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the public.
• Computer literacy and ability to navigate computer-based systems.
• Experience using or ability to learn databases, CRM systems, and shelter management systems.
• Ability to approach conversations with curiosity, respect, and an open mind.
• Strong judgment and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
• Ability to learn and adapt to changes in programs and workflows.
• Positive, collaborative, team-oriented approach.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet SPCA of Wake County driving requirements.

Responsibilities

• Guide adopters through the adoption process with compassionate, professional service in person, by phone, and via email.
• Engage adopters in open discussions to understand needs and lifestyle.
• Identify pets that may be a good match while acknowledging diverse ownership perspectives.
• Share behavioral, medical, and care information to inform decisions.
• Provide pet-care education and answer questions about adoption and resources.
• Enter, update, and maintain adopter and animal data in databases and systems.
• Process adoption paperwork accurately and timely.
• Support pet meetings and adoption operations with Animal Care and other teams.
• Safely and compassionately handle animals and assist with cleaning as needed.
