Job summary

The SPCA of Wake County is seeking an Intake Specialist to be a primary contact for owners surrendering animals, transfers, and other intake pathways. You will coordinate admissions, document information, and assist with medical processing, housing, and placement in a fast-paced shelter.

This role requires compassionate customer service, strong organization, and ability to use case management systems. You will collaborate with Medical, Animal Care, Behavior, Foster, and other teams to ensure

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of one year of professional experience in an animal shelter, veterinary practice, or similar setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with computers and cloud-based software.
• Ability to work with diverse teams and community members.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate customer service by phone, email, and in person.
• Conduct intake appointments and gather complete behavioral, medical, and historical information.
• Maintain accurate electronic records across organizational systems.
• Educate community members about resources and pet-retention options when appropriate.
• Demonstrate resilience and emotional intelligence with sensitive situations and distressed individuals and animals.
• Exercise sound judgment to prioritize cases and coordinate next steps.
