Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a dedicated Transport staff member to move patients, charts, specimens, and equipment across the hospital. You will coordinate with the Transport Supervisor and ensure safe handling of stretchers, wheelchairs, and supplies while maintaining infection control protocols.

The role requires strong reading/comprehension skills, basic arithmetic, and the ability to lift and move heavy items. Vaccination against influenza is required as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

• Read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Capable of routine heavy lifting, pushing, bending, carrying, and walking constantly.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine patient transport between nursing units, diagnostic areas, doctors’ suites, morgue, and other areas of the hospital.
• Transports blood and other specimens on Stat and routine basis.
• Delivers patient equipment, supply items, audiovisual equipment, and exchanges gas tanks as needed.
• Receives direction from Transport Supervisor, Dispatcher, or designee.
• Ensures all stretchers and wheelchairs are properly stored after each use.
• Disinfects stretcher pads and wheelchairs used by patients with precautions.
