Job summary

St. Josephs Hospital in Tucson is seeking a Constant Observer who supports patient safety through continuous bedside observation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will remain with assigned patients, remove hazards, and communicate changes promptly to the nurse in charge.

Qualifications

• Must possess effective interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Must be able to work variable shifts, holidays and/or weekends.
• Within 90 days of hire, complete all .Edu courses on duties of the Constant Observer and the .Edu courses on restraint and seclusion.
• Constant Observers providing patient care must have completed all applicable Competencies within 90 days.
• CPR Certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Remain at patient bedside at all times.
• Remove hazards and unsafe equipment from the environment.
• Report unsafe or broken equipment to supervisor.
• Accompany patient to procedures and tests as needed.
• Refer any signs of change in patient condition to supervising RN.
• Assist in calming or reorienting agitated or confused patients.
• Communicate professionally; provide clear, direct instructions and empathetic listening.
• Respect patient privacy and maintain a quiet environment.
• Adhere to professional conduct and dress.
• Maintain orderliness of patient rooms.
