Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a nursing assistant to provide direct patient care and assist with unit coordination. You will support RNs in caring for stable and acutely ill patients, perform basic nursing tasks, and maintain patient comfort and safety while adhering to hospital policies.

The role emphasizes clinical responsibilities, timely documentation in the EMR, and effective communication with patients and families. Training and teamwork with the care team are essential to success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematics.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Must be able to attend 2 weeks of training.

Responsibilities

• Provides, obtains or performs and documents direct patient care and activities such as activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, intake and output, meal consumption, height and weight, blood glucose testing, bladder scanning, transport of patients and medical records, documentation of O2, early mobilization and ambulation protocols.
• Participates in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift report, hourly rounding for safety, hand washing, isolation protocols and keeping a clean environment.
• Accurately documents vital signs, weights, intake and output, restraints, specimens, and other treatments; reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
• Participates in unit activity such as supply stocking and equipment cleaning and retrieval.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
