Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support bedside RNs by assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, meals, and comfort measures while maintaining patient safety.

You will provide compassionate care in a fast-paced environment, monitor vital signs, report changes to the RN, and help keep patients clean, rested, and comfortable. The role includes using safety equipment and adhering to infection control practices.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department.
• Requires knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.
• Requires up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Requires mental alertness and ability to work under stress.
• Requires concentration amid interruptions and noise.
• Requires judgment and initiative in problem resolution.
• Requires ability to prioritize and manage a high workload.
• Requires knowledge of PCA/PCR/PCI related procedures and equipment.
• Requires knowledge of infection control principles.
• Requires ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
• Requires ability to read and perform basic math.
• Requires organization and attention to detail.
• Requires knowledge of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide activities of daily living to designated patients.
• Assist with mobility, transfers and bathing.
• Monitor patients and report vitals or behavioral changes to the RN.
• Maintain patient surroundings in a clean and safe condition.
